In early June 2024, the People's Committee of Ward 3 in Bac Lieu Province conducted an initiative to trade plastic garbage for rice, as well as a program to exchange trash for trees in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. An old battery containing mercury may pollute 500 liters of water or 1 cubic meter of soil for a duration of 50 years, due to its poisonous nature. Chemical waste, including spent batteries, has not been adequately categorized and gathered within the community for an extended period of time. Organizations sporadically collect old batteries and do not consistently sustain these collections, resulting in ineffective treatment of this trash.
The event JOGreen - Come gather batteries with us takes place from June to December 31, 2024, at 12 hotels belonging to the countrywide SOJO Hotels hotel chain.
Accordingly, each of the hotels under the SOJO hotel system, including 12 establishments in Hanoi, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Viet Tri (Phu Tho), Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Lang Son, Hau Giang, Lao Cai, Dak Lak, and Can Tho, will be equipped with a box to collect old batteries located at the counter.

With a conversion rate of 10 batteries = 1 drink, patrons who gather old batteries and bring them to JO247 Lounge, the restaurant of SOJO Hotels, on Sunday will receive one complimentary drink from the JOGreen menu. Old batteries will be gathered and then sent by SOJO Hotels Technology Hotel to a treatment facility to guarantee environmental safety.
